One of the core eligibility components for CEC is demonstrating your\u00a0<strong>English (or French) language ability<\/strong>\u00a0 measured by approved tests and matched against the\u00a0<strong>Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB)<\/strong>. Today we will be looking at the language requirements for English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Accepted English Language Tests<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To prove your English ability under CEC, IRCC accepts the following tests:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Test Name<\/th><th>What You Must Take<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>CELPIP \u2013 English<\/strong><\/td><td>Take the&nbsp;<strong>CELPIP-General<\/strong>&nbsp;test (not \u201cGeneral LS\u201d or other versions).<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>IELTS \u2013 English<\/strong><\/td><td>Take the&nbsp;<strong>IELTS General Training<\/strong>&nbsp;test (not Academic or One-Skill Retake).<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>PTE Core \u2013 English<\/strong><\/td><td>Accepted alternative to CELPIP and IELTS for English.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>All results must be valid (issued within&nbsp;<strong>2 years<\/strong>) at the time you create your Express Entry profile&nbsp;<em>and<\/em>&nbsp;when you apply for permanent residence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Canada Measures Language Levels (CLB)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>IRCC uses the\u00a0<strong>Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB)<\/strong> a national standard for assessing English proficiency. Your test scores in each of the four language abilities (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are converted into CLB levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Minimum English Requirements for CEC<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The language level you must meet depends on the&nbsp;<strong>skill level of your Canadian work experience<\/strong>, as classified under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system\u2019s TEER categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>For Jobs in TEER 0 or TEER 1<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>These include&nbsp;<strong>managerial and professional occupations<\/strong>&nbsp;(e.g., software engineers, financial managers).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minimum required level:&nbsp;<strong>CLB 7<\/strong>&nbsp;in all four language abilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Example IELTS (General Training) equivalents for CLB 7:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Speaking:&nbsp;<strong>7.0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Listening:&nbsp;<strong>6.0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reading:&nbsp;<strong>6.0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Writing:&nbsp;<strong>6.0<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>For Jobs in TEER 2 or TEER 3<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>These include&nbsp;<strong>skilled trades and technical roles<\/strong>&nbsp;(e.g., electricians, bakers, dental assistants).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minimum required level:&nbsp;<strong>CLB 5<\/strong>&nbsp;in all four language abilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Speaking:&nbsp;<strong>5.0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Listening:&nbsp;<strong>5.0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reading:&nbsp;<strong>4.0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Writing:&nbsp;<strong>5.0<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Practical Tips for English Language Testing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Take the right version<\/strong>\u00a0of the test. IRCC won\u2019t accept academic or special versions (e.g., IELTS Academic or CELPIP-LS). <br><strong>Aim higher than the minimum.<\/strong>\u00a0Higher CLB levels can give you more\u00a0<strong>Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)<\/strong>points in Express Entry. <br><strong>Combine languages<\/strong>: If you also take a French test and score well in both English and French, you can earn extra CRS points. <br><strong>Retake tests if needed<\/strong>: Many applicants retake CELPIP or IELTS to improve their scores and boost their Express Entry ranking.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Canadian Experience Class (CEC)\u00a0is an immigration program for skilled workers who already have\u00a0at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada\u00a0and want to become permanent residents.
